When you think of Latin and Afro-Cuban music… Congas  are very often one of the first instruments to come to mind… And, along with bongos, they are inseparable from the rhythmic foundation of this music. But why is that? Well, first of all, one of the main characteristics of Afro-Cuban music is  Rhythm .

They might go unnoticed many times, but pay attention and you’ll hear bongos in almost all musical genres. From the most obvious ones, like latin music, to the ones you wouldn’t even suspect, like mainstream pop, bongos always manage to add a unique touch to the rhythm section of a song. Ready? Then let’s begin. First up… What is a Cajon? The Cajon is native from Peru and is said to have been created by African slaves which were prohibited from playing music… Therefore coming up with an instrument that could be mistaken for a box, or a stool. That is for the history part. The cajon is a wooden box that’s made out of : A striking surface made out of a thin layer of plywood called “tapa” Thicker wood on the rest of the box A sound hole Often a snare inside, but not always. Sampling is far from a new concept, having first become popular in the 1970s and 1980s. What is new, however, are the modern methods and techniques used as technology develops and music trends change. It’s fair to say music sampling has advanced through time. Today, a musical masterpiece can be created with just a laptop.

For many people (myself included) Garageband is the first piece of software they use to try and produce music. This is probably because it is free and comes pre-installed on many Apple devices from laptops to iPads. It comes loaded with free samples and loops so even the true beginner can create something resembling a song. But because it is free This leaves many people asking the question: “Can you publish songs made in Garageband?” The answer is yes, it is legal to publish songs made in Garageband.
